How to read the table
- Rated energy: the Wh the page publishes (BougeRV "Energy | 1280Wh", Renogy "Energy | 2560Wh", "3840Wh capacity"), or volts x Ah when only those are published [calc]. Renogy's product name reads "Mini Size 12.8V 100Ah" and its option "1.2 kWh", so we count 12.8 x 100 = 1,280 Wh.
- Usable share: only when the maker publishes it. Battle Born: "Usable Depth of Discharge | 100%". Renogy AGM: "it's recommended not to discharge the battery below 50%".
- Cycle life, as published: BougeRV "4000 times (25°C, 0.2C, 100%DOD)", Renogy LiFePO4 "5000 Cycles (80% DOD, 80% EOL)", Battle Born "3,000-5,000", Renogy AGM "500 Cycles (50% DOD)". Test conditions differ, so these numbers do not rank batteries against each other.
- Weight, where published: Renogy Mini 100Ah "21.8 lbs", Battle Born 100Ah "31 lb", Renogy AGM 100Ah "63.9 lbs". For a van, weight is payload.
The picks, explained
Each pick is the cheapest battery in our check that meets one condition, written above it. "Lowest price per kWh" divides the price by rated kWh. "100% usable published" only counts batteries whose maker writes it. We do not rank by brand reputation or by anything we have not read.
How many do you need?
Run the power budget: it multiplies your daily watt-hours by the days you want and divides by each battery's usable energy, then prices the bank. For the fridge alone, see what size battery for a 12V fridge; for the chemistry question, lithium vs AGM.
Lithium safety. LiFePO4 batteries have a built-in BMS, but the pages we read still set limits: BougeRV lists a charge temperature range of "0°C~65°C (32°F~149°F)" and Renogy "32°F to 122°F (0°C to 50°C)" for the Mini 100Ah. Charging below freezing needs a battery with self-heating or low-temperature protection. Fuse every battery, use a charger profile for LiFePO4, and have the bank installed by a qualified installer following the manual.
Frequently asked questions
Which lithium battery is cheapest per kWh?
In our November 7, 2026 check, the lowest price per rated kWh among lithium batteries is shown in the picks above and the last column of the table. The figure is price divided by rated kWh [calc]; it does not include the charger, fuses or cables.
What does usable depth of discharge mean?
The share of the rated capacity the maker says you can use. Battle Born publishes 100%. Renogy's AGM pages say not to discharge below 50%. Renogy's and BougeRV's lithium pages publish cycle life at 80% and 100% depth of discharge, which is a test condition, not a usable-capacity promise; we list it as not published.
Why is Battle Born's energy marked [calc]?
Battle Born publishes "Voltage | 12V" and the Ah capacity but no watt-hour figure on the pages we read, so we multiply the two. BougeRV and Renogy publish Wh directly for most models.
Can I mix batteries of different brands?
Battery makers generally ask for identical batteries in a bank; check your battery manual before connecting units in series or parallel, and have a qualified installer size the cables and fuses.
